Privacy
Humboldt is an emotion-first music journal that helps you capture and revisit how life felt through music. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Information We Collect
When you create an account and use Humboldt, we collect:
- Email address — used for account creation and authentication
- Display name and username — shown on your profile and to other users
- Profile photo — optional, displayed on your profile
- Posts — the vibes, songs, and moments you choose to capture in the app
- Account preferences — settings such as profile visibility and notification preferences
We do not collect your location, device identifiers, or browsing behaviour. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising services.
How Information Is Used
We use your information solely to provide and improve the Humboldt experience:
- To create and manage your account
- To display your posts in your personal Journal and, if your profile is set to public, in the Discover feed and Pulse feature
- To enable Circle connections with other users you mutually follow
- To send in-app notifications such as Circle requests and activity related to your posts
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers or third-party marketing services.
Visibility and Sharing
Humboldt gives you control over who sees your content:
- Private accounts — your posts are only visible to you and your Circle members
- Public accounts — your posts may appear in the Discover feed and Pulse feature, visible to all Humboldt users
- Circle — a mutual connection system where both users must accept before seeing each other's posts
You can change your visibility setting at any time in Settings.
How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account directly within the Humboldt app. To do so:
- Open the app and go to Settings
- Scroll to Delete Account
- Follow the on-screen instructions to permanently delete your account and associated data

Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database platform hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Data is stored in the United States.
Third-Party Services
Humboldt uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (supabase.com/privacy)
- Expo — mobile app platform (expo.dev/privacy)
- iTunes Search API — used to look up song information. No personal data is sent to Apple as part of this lookup.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and posts will be permanently deleted from our systems.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Change your profile visibility at any time

Children's Privacy
Humboldt is designed for users 13 and older. Younger users should use the app with parental guidance and consent. If you are a parent or guardian and have questions about your child's use of Humboldt, please contact us at thehumboldtapp@gmail.com..
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users within the app.
