Privacy
Humboldt is an emotion-first music journal that helps you capture and revisit how life felt through music.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Humboldt collects, how that information is used, when information may be shared with service providers or other users, and the choices you have regarding your information.
1. Information We Collect
Account and Profile Information
When you create and use a Humboldt account, we may collect information including:
- Email address
- Username
- Display name
- Profile photo, if you choose to provide one
- Profile visibility setting
- Account and notification preferences
- Authentication and session information
Moments and Emotional Information
Humboldt is designed around capturing how music connects with how you feel.
When you use Humboldt, we may store information you choose to provide, including:
- Songs, artists, albums, and related music information
- Vibes and sub-vibes associated with your Moments
- Your current feeling when you choose to set one
- Emotional context associated with a Moment
- The date and time a Moment was created
- Information connecting a Replay to an earlier Moment
Your current feeling is private to you. When your current feeling is associated with a Moment, that emotional context is also treated as private contextual information and is not included in Humboldt's public or Circle-facing Moment responses.
Social and App Activity
If you use Humboldt's social features, we may store information such as:
- Circle connections and Circle requests
- Resonance activity
- Replay activity
- In-app notifications and whether they have been read
Usage and Technical Information
We may collect limited information about how Humboldt is used and how the app is functioning. This may include information such as app activity, feature interactions, session activity, device platform, app version, and build version.
We use this information to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, improve, and understand the use of Humboldt.
Humboldt does not use this information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Humboldt does not currently use third-party advertising or third-party analytics services.
2. How We Use Information
We use information collected through Humboldt to:
- Create, authenticate, and maintain your account
- Provide your personal Journal and other Humboldt features
- Save and display the Moments you create
- Provide Pulse and other aggregate features based on music and emotional patterns
- Respect and enforce your selected visibility settings
- Enable Circle connections and other social features
- Provide Resonance, Replay, and in-app notification functionality
- Find music and related song information
- Maintain the security and reliability of Humboldt
- Diagnose technical problems
- Understand how Humboldt is being used
- Improve existing features and develop new Humboldt features
- Respond to support, privacy, and account requests
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not provide personal information to advertisers or use your information to serve targeted advertising.
3. Visibility and Sharing Within Humboldt
Humboldt gives you control over the visibility of your profile and Moments.
Private
Private content is visible only to you.
Circle
Circle visibility allows content to be viewed by people with whom you have an accepted Circle connection.
Public
Public Moments may be visible to other Humboldt users and may appear in public Humboldt experiences such as Discover. Public Moments may also be displayed on Humboldt's public website or other Humboldt-owned public experiences.
Your private current-feeling information and private emotional-context information are not included in public or Circle-facing Moment responses.
You can change your profile visibility through Humboldt's Settings.
Changing your visibility does not necessarily remove information that another person may have previously seen while it was available to them.
4. Music Searches and External Music Services
Humboldt uses music information to help you identify the songs connected to your Moments.
When you search for music in Humboldt, your music search terms are sent to Apple's iTunes Search service so matching song information can be returned.
If you choose to open music in an external service such as Apple Music or Spotify, Humboldt sends the relevant song and artist search information to that service so it can attempt to locate the music you selected.
Your use of those external services is also subject to their respective privacy policies and terms.
5. Service Providers
Humboldt relies on service providers to operate parts of the app.
These currently include:
Supabase
Used for account authentication, database services, file storage, and application infrastructure.
Expo
Used as part of Humboldt's mobile application, build, update, and runtime infrastructure.
Resend
Used to deliver transactional emails such as account confirmation and password-reset messages.
Apple / iTunes Search
Used to search for music and retrieve song information.
Apple Music and Spotify
Used when you choose to open or search for music using those services.
These providers may process information as necessary to provide their services to Humboldt. Their handling of information is also governed by their own privacy policies.
6. Data Storage and Security
Humboldt uses Supabase and other service providers to store and process application data.
We use technical safeguards designed to limit unauthorized access to Humboldt data, including authentication, database access controls, and row-level access policies.
No method of electronic storage, transmission, or online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
7. Data Retention
We generally retain account information and user-created information while your Humboldt account remains active or as needed to provide Humboldt.
Some information may be retained after it is no longer actively displayed when necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, or improve Humboldt.
Humboldt's current-feeling feature is designed around a 24-hour active period. Technical records related to expired feelings may remain in Humboldt's systems unless they are subsequently deleted or removed through account deletion processes.
We do not promise a specific retention period for information unless one is stated in this Privacy Policy.
8. Account Deletion and De-Identified Data
You can delete your Humboldt account directly from within the app.
Go to:
Settings → Delete Account
and follow the confirmation steps.
If you cannot access the app, you may request account deletion by emailing:
from the email address associated with your Humboldt account with the subject:
DELETE ACCOUNT
We may take reasonable steps to verify that you own the account before processing an emailed deletion request.
When your account is deleted, Humboldt removes your account and identifying profile information along with account-linked information that is no longer necessary.
Certain Moment information may be retained in de-identified form after account deletion. This may include information such as the song connected to a Moment, the Vibe or sub-vibe associated with it, emotional context associated with the Moment, and other non-identifying information.
This de-identified information may be retained to preserve aggregate Humboldt features such as Pulse, understand emotional and musical patterns, improve Humboldt, and support development of future Humboldt features.
The retained Moment information is no longer associated with your Humboldt account or profile.
Some aggregate or de-identified operational and usage information may also remain after account deletion.
9. Your Choices and Controls
Humboldt provides controls that allow you to:
- Edit your username, display name, and profile photo
- Change your profile visibility
- Delete individual Moments
- Manage supported in-app notification preferences
- Sign out of your account
- Reset your password
- Delete your Humboldt account
You may also contact privacy@hum.boldt.app with questions or requests concerning your personal information.
Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional privacy rights.
10. Children's Privacy
Humboldt is not intended for children under 13.
We do not knowingly intend to collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Advertising and Tracking
Humboldt does not currently display third-party advertising.
Humboldt does not currently use advertising identifiers for targeted advertising or use third-party tracking technologies to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
If these practices materially change, this Privacy Policy and applicable app-store privacy disclosures will be updated.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Humboldt evolves.
When the policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
If a change materially affects how we collect, use, or share personal information, we will make reasonable efforts to provide additional notice through Humboldt or another appropriate method.
